BYRD, STEPHEN CURTIS: Ozark.***
born June 20, 1834 near Newton
entered service at Greenville March 5, 1862 as a private, unit
not given; "about the 10th of February 1865, I was furloughed
and I have not been back since".
Stephen C. Byrd, 1834-1915; Sgt, Co I, 33d Ala Inf Rgt; he and w. Sarah J. Clark,
are at Ebenezer Baptist Church, NE of Ozark; they were most likely first
at Haw Ridge but moved here as Ft. Rucker was being built in 1942.
Just for the record, there were a dozen or more of the local Byrd's who served
in the war, with 10 in the 33d Ala.

Stephen Curtis Byrd, born near Newton Jun 20, 1834 to Benjamin B. and Mary
Andrews Byrd; d. Feb 28, 1915 and initially interred in the Haw Ridge
Cemetery; remains moved to Ebenezer Church Cemetery in 1942; m. Sarah J.
Clark, May 3, 1841-May 23, 1920; served in the war as Sgt, Co I, 33d
Ala Inf Rgt; just FYI, ten of the Byrd line from Coffee/Dale served in the
same company of the 33d Ala; as I recall, all survived except two.
