--------------NOTES FROM MARGARET LINDSEY------------------------------
John D. DILLARD was born in 1803 in Fairfield S. C. and died 1861 in Ozark Dale Co. Al. He married Hiley WATSON 1822 in Gwinnett Co. Ga. She is the daughter of Cecelia.
John was born in Fairfield S. C. in 1803 he moved with his father John to Burke Co. Ga. in 1815. He then moved to Walton Co. Ga. in 1820, then to Muscogee Co. in about 1830. He was living in Walton Co. when Crawford was born. He bought farm land N. E. of Ozark Al. in about 1850. He died in 1861 and is buried on his farm. The John DILLARD's were landowners in Ga.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------Notes from Mary D. HAZEN-----------------------------------------
Hiley WATSON was quite a character. She was married on crutches, reared her family on crutches and acted like she did not know she had a handicap. She did all her housework, which included cooking on an open fire, knitting hose, making soap, weaving cloth, etc. In addition, she played with her children outside. She was a Primitive Baptist and was Baptized on crutches into her church. She died in 1896 and had requested that she be buried at the foot of the grave of one Mr. STUBBS in the Center Ridge cemetery Dale Co. Al. He was a friend of the family. She did not want to be buried in the woods.
Children of John DILLARD and Hiley WATSON are:
Susan DILLARD, born 26 Aug 1827 in Walton Co. Ga
Tapley Mixon DILLARD, born 20 Dec 1829 in Walton Co. Ga. He married Angeline BRILEY
Crawford George DILLARD, born 18 Jun 1832 in Walton Co. Ga. died 1925 in Ozark Dale Co. Al.

-------------------END OF NOTES FROM MARGARET LINDSEY-------------------
Yesterday I received the material my sister copied from the HISTORY OF CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY, GEORGIA, by N. K. Rogers. It was originally published in 1933, reprinted with new material by Southern Historical Press, Inc., P.O. Box 1267, 375 West Broad Street, Greenville, S.C., 29602-1267, 1976 & 1997. ISBN # 0-89308-032-2
Extract from book: The reference to John Dillard having been in Rabun County is very brief, as follows: "John Dillard, a Revolutionary soldier, was a resident of Rabun Co., Ga. In 1827 and drew lots in original Troup and Lee Counties. It is believed he was father of John Dillard who fought the Indians. A quarter of a century later the Indian fighter had a half dozen sons in the Confederate Army. Among them was the subject of this sketch" The "subject of this sketch" was Starling M Dillard, who only briefly moved to Alabama, then returned to Chattahoochee County, where two sons were still living in 1933.
Among the folks listed are Abel and William Briley and a number of Revels. I had been unable to find Abel in census records for Georgia,
but hadn't looked in Chattahoochee County! He is listed in the Tax Digest for Cusseta in 1857, under Dist. 678, along with John Dillard,
Sterling Dillard, William Briley, Matthew Revel and Sanders Revel.
Church records for Mt. Olive Baptist list Elizabeth and Haywood Revell, Saphronia F. and Sarah Revell.
In a sketch about Thomas Wynn Christian, it says that he and his second wife, Elizabeth Brown (married 30 June 1863), had a daughter, Sallie, who married John Dillard.
A listing of marriages in the county includes: "Dillard, Tapley and Angeline Briley, March 22, 1855, by Isaac H. Webb, J. I. C.;
Dillard, Starling and Jincy C. Tomberlin, Nov. 22, 1859, by Wm. G. Wilkingson, M. G."
Abel Briley is listed as an estate administrator or as security for estates in Nov. 1855, May 1856.
----------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have completed and exhausted all DILLARD lines from RABUN County and can say with certainty that my John DILLARD is not a direct descendant of the DILLARD's from Rabun County. I have researched all John DILLARD's and have accounted for all their John DILLARD offspring. John DILLARD Jr. Son of John DILLARD the Revolutionary Soldier of Rabun County Ga. married Rhoda LEE had many children, died and is buried in Cass Co. Ga. This John DILLARD cannot possibly be our John DILLARD. The Rabun County Had three known male children and all have been accounted for: John Dillard, Jr., probably born c. 1780, who married Rhoda Lee, went off to Knox County, Kentucky around 1812, then moved to Monroe County, Tennessee, and ultimately to Cass County, Georgia, where he died 1847-1848. He had nine children. SRC: The Children of John DILLARD http://www.dillardfamilyassociation.com/dannuals/da1992/da92hv5.htm
